How does a government official cheating on his or her spouse make them unable to surve their state/country?

Them cheating has nothing to do with them doing their job right. so what's the big deal if they cheat or not?How does a government official cheating on his or her spouse make them unable to surve their state/country?
According to most of you, then all of the following politicians should have been forced to leave their positions:

BILL CLINTON

JOHN EDWARDS (While his wife battled breast cancer)

JOHN F KENNEDY

TED KENNEDY (Killed his girlfriend)

BARNEY FRANKS (except the scandal involved male prostitutes)How does a government official cheating on his or her spouse make them unable to surve their state/country?
The problem is the Republican voting base, who, more than Democrats, are conservative Christians and view cheating as morally wrong. Perhaps they could still ';serve their country,'; but they wouldn't be representing the things the voters believed in.

BTW, confessing and apologizing was the correct thing to do to retain the voters. He still may have a chance of being re-elected. Sometimes even conservative Christians cheat; confession is the approved path back.
It doesn't, really, but it does point out hypocrisy (which I( understand isn't limited to Republicans, but really, you hear about WAY more cheating Republicans than Democrats) - a party that screams about upholding traditional family values, when you've got John McCain's first marriage, or the Larry Craig thing, or Ensign... you get the idea. And in this particular recent case, it showed massive, startling incompetence in how he went missing for a week, unexplained.

Plus, it does call into question what the official could do with everyone else's trust if they could so easily break the trust of someone who was supposedly closest to them in life. One area (marital affairs) wouldn't NECESSARILY need to affect the other (government work), but again, it does make one question how much they can trust this person.
well... code of moral ethics and conduct has something to do with it but I understand your point on it having nothing to do with governing the state or country if they are a great politician, however, if you are referring to gov sanford the issue was he up and left without informing his staff and the state of carolina was basically in limbo without a governor for several days.... i mean if obama up and left to go to sri lanka and not inform the white house staff all chaos would break loose
That's not what people said when it happened in the white house. I agree with the others, in that it wasn't the affair that was the big deal, it was him leaving the state without informing his staff.
it doesn't. but voting to impeach someone for lying about cheating, then lie about cheating yourself is something to think about.
I mean, the fact that we was missing for a week without any explanation to carry out that affair certainly makes him incompetent.
It brings into question their ability to make good decisions.
It brings in to question their judgment.
It puts their honesty in the fire.
It's call trust............
